Prevalence of asymptomatic bacteriuria and its antibacterial susceptibility pattern among pregnant women

Background and Aim: The condition of asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnancy is common, up to 40% women developing pyelonephritis may suffer low birth weight membrane’s premature rupture. present study intended investigate the incidence its antibacterial susceptibility pattern among pregnant women. Patients Methods: This cross-sectional was carried out on 183 attending Obstetrics Gynecology Department Ayub Teaching Hospital, Abbottabad from December 2021 May 2022. Pregnant with attended ANC services willing provide written consent were enrolled. Standard bacteriological procedures followed for bacterial isolates identification using biochemical tests, colony characteristics, Gram-staining. Kirby- Bauer disk diffusion technique used Antimicrobial test Muller-Hinton agar medium Clinical Laboratory Institute guidelines interpretation zone inhibition diameter. Midstream urine samples collected each participant standard microbiological methods culture urine, identify pathogen, conduct sensitivity tests. Data analysis done SPSS version 27. Results: prevalence 14.2% (n=26)
